Dear Parents,
I challenge TEAM WILKINSON to read 20 (just
right) books by the end of the school year.
Certainly they can (and will) read more, but our specific Challenge is
laid out below.
The Rules:
*Each book must be read by your fourth
grader. No read aloud books will count towards their goal (audio books can be
used for some but not all…they need to learn to read and understand print).
Books they read in class count in their 20 book total.
*They must use the 20 Book Challenge
organizer (provided by me) to make their genre choices. We are currently
studying these in class so that they have a clear understanding.
*For each book read, the students must write
it down in their reading log AND
write a reflection/summary
of the book when it is completed (In their Reader’s Notebook).
The purpose of this challenge is to get your
fourth grader reading books they might not normally choose and to increase
their love of reading. There is no grade assigned to this challenge but I
encourage all students to try and reach the 20 book goal. This same activity is
done in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th
grades…so let’s get them prepared for what’s to come.
Thanks and Happy Reading!
The organizer below will
also be sent home in our Tuesday Folders; this copy is for your student to
track progress at home. I will keep a record of books that your child completes
based on the summary/reflection they provide. We will not "count" a
book towards their goal until this summary/reflection is turned in. A book will
only count toward one genre box and the order of their completion is entirely
up to the student.
